Precision Path to Basic Mathematics Proficiency
Abstract
Basic mathematical computation skills are prerequisite to advanced mathematical applications as well as to successful daily living. A difficult decision facing many teachers is that of determining an appropriate proficiency or mastery level for basic mathematical facts. What rate of recall for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts must a student acquire and maintain to assure success in later application situations? Along with this rate decision is the consideration for the amount of instructional time required to achieve a given rate.
